Archaeology Day

On October 15, 2005 4-S and the Social Sciences department offered high school students a chance to learn more about what archaeology is, and how archaeologists do what they do.  A chance that most people don't have in their own backyard!   The project is an investigation of the Huron Mine site on Huron Creek near Walmart.  Owned by the City of Houghton, we are working with the city to explore ways to document, preserve, and interpret  the history of the company that once operated there.  The focus of the project is on the material remains of the mine and the houses of its workers.
