PURPOSE

Wind Power in the Western Upper Peninsula

As a sparsely populated area on Lake Superior, Michigan's Upper Peninsula would seem to be a good place to take advantage of wind power.  What is the potential for taking advantage of this resource?  To what extent is this resource currently being exploited?   And what are the factors encouraging and discouraging further exploitation?

This website is a summary of basic information useful in answering these questions for the western U.P., which includes the following five counties: Keweenaw, Houghton, Baraga, Ontonagon, and Gogebic.  In general, it is one step forward in the effort to answer the question "What is the future of wind power in the western Upper Peninsula?"
